Logging hours on rope

Step by step — from tapping Log hours to submitting for counter-sign.

Before you start

Log your hours at the end of a work period — not day by day. IRATA logbooks record periods of up to 14 days. If a job runs longer, split it into fortnightly entries.

Works on site even with no signal. Your entry saves locally and syncs to your account when you're back in range. More on offline →

Step by step

  1. 1

Tap Log hours on the dashboard

You'll land on a new entry form. Everything is blank — no default dates, so you fill in exactly what happened.

  2. 2

    Set the work period

Pick the start and end dates. The app will block the entry with an error if the period exceeds 14 days — split the entry if needed.

  3. 3

    Enter the employer and location

Enter the name of the company you were working for during this period. Add the site name and state. Tap the GPS icon to stamp the co-ordinates automatically.

  4. 4

    Select structure type

Choose the type of structure you worked on (Bridge, Concrete Tower, Dam, and others). Required for the TACS export.

  5. 5

    Enter max height (m)

Enter the maximum height worked during this period in metres. Required for the TACS export.

  6. 6

Enter your RA hours (rope access time only)

Type the total hours you spent on the rope during this period. Be accurate — your supervisor will review these numbers before signing.

  7. 7

    Tick the techniques used

Check every technique you performed: ascending, descending, traverse, work positioning, rescue, and others. IRATA tracks these separately — be specific.

  8. 8

    Describe the nature of work

A sentence or two is enough: "NDT inspection of bridge pylon anchor points" or "Painting concrete cooling tower exterior, high-exposure face." This goes into your logbook export as-is.

  9. 9

Optional: add a photo, voice note, or gear chips

Tap the camera icon to attach a site photo. Tap the microphone for a voice note. Tap Add gear to link equipment from your organisation's register.

  10. 10

    Save, then submit for counter-sign

Tap Save entry. Then either tap Submit for sign-off to add the entry to your supervisor's sign-off queue in the app, or tap Request signature to send them an email link. Both routes place the entry in the supervisor's review queue. Counter-sign guide →

Entries are editable until your supervisor signs. Once signed, the record is locked. If you made a mistake before signing, tap Edit entry and fix it — then re-request the signature.

Viewing your entries

Tap Logbook from the bottom nav. You'll see all your entries in reverse chronological order:

  • Green: signed and locked.
  • Amber: saved but awaiting counter-sign.
  • White: draft — not yet submitted for review.
