Logging hours on rope
Step by step — from tapping Log hours to submitting for counter-sign.
Before you start
Log your hours at the end of a work period — not day by day. IRATA logbooks record periods of up to 14 days. If a job runs longer, split it into fortnightly entries.
Works on site even with no signal. Your entry saves locally and syncs to your account when you're back in range. More on offline →
Step by step
- 1
Tap Log hours on the dashboard
You'll land on a new entry form. Everything is blank — no default dates, so you fill in exactly what happened.
- 2
Set the work period
Pick the start and end dates. The app will warn you if the period exceeds 14 days — split the entry if needed.
- 3
Enter the employer and location
If you're inside a company's workspace, your employer pre-fills. Add the site name and state. Tap the GPS icon to stamp the co-ordinates automatically.
- 4
Enter your rope mileage
Type the total hours you spent on the rope during this period. Be accurate — your supervisor will review these numbers before signing.
- 5
Tick the techniques used
Check every technique you performed: ascending, descending, traverse, work positioning, rescue, and others. IRATA tracks these separately — be specific.
- 6
Describe the nature of work
A sentence or two is enough: "NDT inspection of bridge pylon anchor points" or "Painting concrete cooling tower exterior, high-exposure face." This goes into your logbook export as-is.
- 7
Optional: add a photo, voice note, or gear chips
Tap the camera icon to attach a site photo. Tap the microphone for a voice note. Tap Add gear to link equipment from your organisation's register.
- 8
Save, then request counter-sign
Tap Save entry. The entry is now visible to your supervisor. Tap Request signature to notify them — or hand them your device. Counter-sign guide →
Viewing your entries
Tap Logbook from the bottom nav. You'll see all your entries in reverse chronological order:
- ✓ Green: signed and locked.
- ⏳ Amber: saved but awaiting counter-sign.
- ✎ White: draft — not yet submitted for review.
